Have you ever had to sit through one of those boring corporate lectures listening to some sort of expert drone on about how to sell more, market better or do your job differently? Well Big Finish Productions and writer James Goss have taken us to the board room of Darcon Corporations to give us the ultimate corporate guest lecture, Doctor Who style.
It seems after many successful intergalactic disasters, planet strip mining and other dastardly events, the Darcon Corporation has had to hire an outside consultant to instruct them how to achieve the ultimate prize – a successful invasion of Earth.
Darcon’s guest speaker is none other than the Time Lord known as the Meddling Monk, portrayed with great relish by English comedian and actor Rufus Hound. The Monk delivers a somewhat informative slideshow presentation on how to invade Earth. Something that should be easy peasy except for the interference of the Doctor. The Monk recalls the many humourous attempts at dominating Earth before being fouled by a certain scarf-covered Doctor and his companions Sarah Jane Smith and Harry Sullivan. And while we will definitely state that Rufus Hound has found his niche character in the Big Finish universe, we’re not too sure that Darcon hired the right consultant for their invasion plans.
How To Win Planets and Influence People hits just the right notes. James Goss takes full advantage of the Short Trips format, and Hound’s comedic talents with the 35-minute monologue that will have you chuckling away at the Meddling Monk’s misfortune.
