The mid-series Class two-parter reaches an explosive climax this week. As war is waged on two sides of the universe, who will emerge victorious?
The conclusion to last week’s episode wastes no time picking up where things left off. Just like the first part too, this is very much a tale of two halves. On one side, April and Ram find themselves in the fiery realm of the Shadow Kin. Their only hope of escape: to find and defeat Corakinus once and for all. It’s a desperate and perilous mission, and everything taking place beyond the stars is full of tension and drama. But can a teenage girl really best such a powerful intergalactic evil?
Meanwhile, things are escalating just as quickly back on Earth. The deadly flower petals are constantly replicating, and the damage is beginning to show. With April and Ram out of the picture, it’s up to the others to save the day. Particularly, things get very heated for Charlie and Miss Quill. There’s a lot at stake, but also old scores yet to be settled. Who will get their way and what consequences will have to be faced?
From start to finish, the episode is another non-stop thrill ride that once again hits a healthy balance between character and story development. With so much going on and so many key themes being scrutinised under the microscope, this could easily have been finale material. There are lots of questions thrown up in the air, but it offers plenty of answers as well. Just what is the ultimate fate of these two impossible wars? And how do these seemingly disparate threads eventually come together?
Well… you’ll just have to wait and see, won’t you!
Episode 5, Brave-ish Heart, will be available on BBC Three from 10am on Saturday 12th November. Class is written by Patrick Ness and directed by Ed Bazalgette.
Battling through the Shadow Kin realm, April knows that there is no going back: she has to defeat Corakinus. On Earth, the invasion of the petals is rapidly snowballing. Confronted with the threat of the planet’s extinction, new headmistress Dorothea attempts to force Charlie into making a transformational decision. But Miss Quill has other ideas for him. As Charlie, Matteusz and Tanya try to stop the petals from annihilating the human race, April must fight the terrifying force of Corakinus, light-years away from home.
