Class hits the halfway mark this week, but there’s no time for breaks. Episode 4 joins up all the dots so far in a breathless showcase of powerful performances.
Generally speaking, the mid-point of a television series is a bit of a lull. Usually, things are winding down slightly, but if anything, Class is now winding up. Following character studies of Ram and Tanya, this week it’s April in the spotlight. There’s one distinct difference to previous weeks, however: where she goes, the story arc comes along with her.
Continuing from the events of Episode 1, April begins to struggle with sharing Corakinus’ heart. It’s having adverse effects on her behaviour, making her much more irritable and violent. She turns to Ram for comfort and their friendship develops ever further. Meanwhile, the Shadow Kin return to the series and are determined to sever the connection between April and their leader. The action jumps across time and space as both sides of the story play out in tandem, with strange and unexpected consequences.
In fact, it’s very much an episode of two halves, in every sense. For the rest of the cast, there’s another plot line going on in the background at Coal Hill Academy. Strange flower petals are suddenly appearing, and there’s some new faces in charge at the school. Eagle eyed viewers will be rewarded for paying attention in previous episodes, as small clues finally start to add up. It’s definitely worth going back and doing your homework for this one.
Believe us: this weekend promises a jam-packed, must-see episode of the series. Oh, and don’t expect everything to have been completely wrapped up by the time the credits roll. This is one adventure that’s only just beginning…
Episode 4, Co-Owner of a Lonely Heart, will be available on BBC Three from 10am on Saturday 5th November. Class is written by Patrick Ness and directed by Ed Bazalgette.
April starts to feel greater effects of sharing her heart with Corakinus: his attempts to sever the attachment have only made it stronger. Manifesting traits of the Shadow Kin leader, April confronts her estranged father with Shadow Kin force when he makes a startling appearance. Frightened by this extraordinary newfound power, April seeks comfort in Ram, and vows to reclaim her heart as her own. Meanwhile, something strange is happening to the others – London is slowly being infested with unusual, sinister flower petals.
