A new full-length series 10 trailer hit the interwebs this evening. So we’ve dutifully picked through every frame to give you a selection of highlights.

Everyone loves the classics

Matt Lucas as Nardole
Matt Lucas as Nardole

The Doctor bequeaths Nardole a classic-era style sonic screwdriver. A nice visual callback is always appreciated, though this does raise a few questions. Mainly, why lug around that clunky Metebelis paperweight of a sonic when this sleek model is rattling around a drawer? Still, despite his horrified expression, Nardole seems to get the hang of it pretty quickly. Beware of wood though…

Someone Wood Like A Word

As-yet-unknown wood monster
As-yet-unknown wood monster

Speaking of which, we got a glimpse of this new monster. A human figure that seems to be made out of wood. Whether or not this is the same race we met in the 2011 Christmas special remains to be seen. Either way, great strategy to resist the sonic screwdriver, it worked great for the Cybermen

Among the Cybermen

Mondasian Cybermen
Mondasian Cybermen

We reported last week that the Cybermen were returning with a new/old look. The mechanical Monasian menaces rocked up with a look reminiscent of their first episode, ‘The Tenth Planet’. Human hands, silver balaclavas, generally more person-esque than we’ve come to know them for. An old favourite of the Doctor himself, Peter Capaldi has repeatedly mentioned wanting to see a return for the original Cybermen. When it comes to living your dreams, Capaldi is the master…

Hey, Missy!

Michelle Gomez as The Master
Michelle Gomez as The Master

We knew Michelle Gomez was back before it was even announced (at least, we hoped). But we weren’t expecting her to show up with new clobber and Toni Basil hair. Manic Missy is looking decidedly more becalmed than usual, so she must be up to something. Last time we saw the Master, she was at the mercy of the Daleks. But Michelle Gomez is credited for the series finale that will feature the aforementioned Cybermen. That definitely looks like Cyber tech keeping her in place, so maybe a prisoner exchange took place. I doubt she went willingly, though, she’s such an ice queen…

Ice To Meet You

New Ice Warrior
New Ice Warrior

Co-creator of ‘Sherlock’ and professional fanboy-dream-liver Mark Gatiss announced the return of the Ice Warriors a while back. He also said that the Martian menaces (Oh, I’ve used that one…um…Martian…marauders?) would get an upgrade. He wasn’t kidding. The creature we met in this trailer is recognisably an Ice Warrior but has more prominent face-parts than usual. And Predator dreads apparently. With suit actor Spencer Wilding now Vader-in-chief, it’s someone else under that costume. Perhaps Gatiss has crafted a cold-blooded villain for the Doctor to match wits with. Rumours abound that this Ice Warrior is actually a female, and it’s about time too…

“It’s time”

David Suchet as The Landlord
David Suchet as The Landlord

You said it, Poirot. We got a quick look at David Suchet’s character, who will be joining the show for an episode. Other than his name, The Landlord, we don’t know much about this character. Given the title, it’s possible he’s a renegade Time Lord who came to Earth with an interest in the rental market. Or something more sinister involving a tuning fork.

“Bring it”

Someone must have made that into a GIF by now…

…Bless you, Internet.

  1. I’m hoping that the female Ice Warrior is actuslly Missy playing dress ups for no reason beyond “woke up yesterday and felt like it” followed by that wonderfully demented smile.
