Doctor Who stars past and present were out on the town last night attending the press night performance of ‘The Boys in the Band’ featuring Doctor Who/Sherlock writer Mark Gatiss.
Tenth Doctor David Tennant met up with Doctor Who’s very own ‘companion’ Matt Lucas (Nardole) at The Park Theatre in London. The pair may not have worked together on Doctor Who but they shared a little screen time in Russell T Davis’ 2005 comedy drama ‘Casanova’.
About ‘The Boys in the Band’
American playwright Mart Crowley’s groundbreaking 1968 play is set in New York apartment, where nine men are gathering for a party. Olivier award winner Mark Gatiss plays birthday boy Harold while Gatiss’s real-life husband Ian Hallard (‘Lovesong of the Electric Bear’, ‘Great Britain’) is party host Michael. Harold receives a surprise gift from his friend, Emory in the form of a beautiful male hustler and Michael gets an unwanted surprise of his own. As the booze is drunk and the dope smoked, the mood swings from hilarity to heartbreak.
This new production of ‘The Boys in the Band’ is directed by Adam Penford (A Small Family Business) and comes from the producers of the acclaimed productions of Beautiful Thing, Our Boys and Another Country.
‘The Boys in the Band’ runs until the 30th October. Tickets are available direct from The Park Theatre website.
